Omaha Poker

Omaha is a poker game similar to famous Texas hold 'em, but with several notable differences. Just like Texas hold 'em, Omaha is a community card poker game and the number of community cards are the same in Texas hold 'em and Omaha – five. When a player of Texas hold 'em will be dealt two individual pocket cards, the Omaha player will however receive four cards. The Omaha player must construct a poker hand using exactly two of the pocket cards and three of the five community cards, while the Texas hold 'em player is free to use any card combination.

Omaha is also known as Omaha hold 'em and Omaha holdem. There exist several different types of Omaha, including Omaha High Only and Omaha eight-or-better. Omaha High Only is the original form of Omaha, and Omaha High Only with pot limit is the most commonly played Omaha variant in European casinos. When Omaha is played in casinos in the United States, it is usually the Omaha eight-or-better variant. This form of Omaha poker is a high-low split game that use fix limits. It is also called Omaha8 and Omaha Hi-Lo. If you like to play poker online, you can usually find all forms of Omaha, but pot limit is much more common than no limit.

In Europe, you can also find a poker name named Courcheval that is very similar to Omaha. During Courcheval, the first community card is placed face up on the table prior to the initial betting round. During normal Omaha, as well as in Texas hold 'em, there is always a betting round before any community cards are dealt. In Courcheval, each player will have four pocket cards and know about one of the community cards before any betting takes place. After the first betting round, two more community cards will be placed face up on the table, and from this point the game will continue exactly like normal Omaha poker.

As mentioned above, Omaha is quite similar to Texas hold 'em but with a few important differences. The betting structure is the same, and the community cards are dealt using the same system as in Texas hold 'em. A game of Omaha will however begin with each player being dealt four cards instead of two. During showdown, the player must use three of the community cards and two of the pocket cards to create a poker hand. You can for instance never choose to use only one of your pocket cards, or all of them.

If you are used to playing Texas hold 'em, there are a few things to keep in mind when you start playing Omaha. When you play Texas hold 'em or Omaha, you can obtain a flush if there are three or more suited community cards on the table. During a game of Omaha, you must however have two cards of that suit on your own hand. Even if there are four clubs on the table, and you have one club, you do not have a flush since you always have to use two cards from your own hand.
