Mississippi Casinos
Pickup trucks, rebel flags, and farms. That's what a lot of people think of when they think of Mississippi. Well I'm here to change that perception. Next time you're on that plane to the most crowded gambling place on earth (Las Vegas), or the dirtiest (Atlantic City) why not do something different and try Biloxi Mississippi.
Biloxi is one of the biggest gambling markets in the country yet it remains a mystery to most casino hoppers. Most people think of riverboats when they think of gambling in the south. Granted, the casinos have to be built on the water in Mississippi but they are REAL CASINOS , not cramped little river boats with a $10 entry fee, not Indian Reservations with fake slot machines and no table games. This is the real deal. One stroll into the coasts jewel (The MGM owned Beau Rivage, also built by the real mans man, Steve Wynn) and you'll feel like you're in Vegas. The only thing missing will be the prostitutes and the 25 cents shrimp cocktail.
Biloxi is on the beach, with a back bay area. It's a smaller, cleaner, Atlantic City with a touch of Southern Charm thrown into the mix. And the seafood buffets are insane. I've never been to a buffet with soft shell crabs, all you can eat. They're sorry when I show up for that. You'll also find crab legs, oysters on the half shell, fresh gulf shrimp, and throw in the hottest little southern belles you can find and we're talking entertainment.
Speaking of entertainment, Biloxi gets all the same acts that Vegas and Atlantic City do. This is no rinky dink little town with some loser doing his impression of Carrot Top. This is the real deal. Everyone stops by: George Carlin, Chris Rock, Britney Spears, boxing with Roy Jones Jr. I'm telling you, no, I'm begging you , give Biloxi a try.
If you want Vegas style, go with the Beau Rivage, it's amazing, it's huge, the cocktail waitresses will blow your mind out, they are the hottest of the hot. If you're looking for a little coziness, hit the back bay and the western themed BoomTown, and if you're looking for fun, hit the new Hard Rock (only the 2nd Hard Rock Casino in existance. Only Vegas has the other 1, don't count those wannabe Florida ones, they're just fancy bingo halls with no real games). You've got casinos owned by MGM, HARRAHS, CAESARS, ISLE OF CAPRI , and many more.
I love the casinos there, I love the hot southern girls with those sexy accents and those hot outfits, and I love the fact that I can walk the streets and have people say hello instead of flipping me off like in Atlantic City. Ok, I'm supposed to be talking about Poker. Sorry, I love reading my own words so much that I forget to stay focused some times, it's a problem, and that's why I'm usually unemployed. Oh, and New Orleans is less than a 2 hour drive from Biloxi, so theres more reason to go.
GRAND CASINO GULFPORT: The town next to Biloxi is Gulfport, it was supposed to boom and fill the shore with more casinos. It never did, but luckily the Grand Casino (Owned by Caesars, soon to be owned by Harrahs since Caesars got bought out) is here. I love this place, I love taking the 5 minute ride from Biloxi to get to it. It's got a nice cozy 15 table poker room, all types of poker, Stud, Texas Holdem, Omaha. They've got tournaments like the $10 buy in that can win you a grand. A great place to play. I know it's all about the poker but I don't play in a place unless I like the whole property. They've got a water park here, a great interior design that's being redesigned and modernized to make it even more impressive. It's class, it's fun, the Grands have the best food for the price range in Biloxi, tons of restaurants, rows of slots. Us Poker Players need a break after 5 hours on the tables, so why not hit the South Park slot machine after you're done and let Eric Cartmen tell you to go F yourself instead of letting the other players do it all night. My other review is the Grand Casino Biloxi. Last I checked the Beau Rivage didn't have poker anymore, but it's worth hitting that casino for the clubs and high class atmosphere. I've only played poker in the 2 Grands, but it's around in Biloxi, the New Palace has it, it's a nice little casino that caters to the lower end player but keeps the class of the big places.
GRAND CASINO BILOXI: It's got more poker tables than the GulfPort casino. It's also got a bigger casino, better restaurants, and you're in Casino Row (ISLE OF CAPRI CASINO, CASINO MAGIC, AND GRAND CASINO) Similar to the way the Taj, Resorts, and Showboat are in Atlantic City, only these aren't connected. Poker is great here as well, they've got all the games, friendly dealers, tons of tournaments and the best seafood buffet in town. How they can afford to sell you all the oysters, crab legs, and softies you can eat, I don't know. It's not my job to know and I leave that to the business majors. They've got Stud, Texas Holdem and No Limit Holdem. Tournaments with $5,000 guaranteed for only a $10 entry fee. My favorite casino in Biloxi is the Beau Rivage. That may change when the Hard Rock officially opens this summer, but my close favorite is the Grand Biloxi. It's a huge resort with an amazing theater that I saw George Carlin in and laughed my ass off. Why doesn't he run for president? I'd vote for him, but I'd vote for Carmen Electra too so I guess my vote isn't worth too much. Sorry, went off on a rant again. Hit the Grands, both of them. This is the better of the 2, you're in walking distance to the Isle of Capri with it's cool Caribean theme, and the Casino Magic with it's lame Magic theme. And try 3 card poker, it's not REAL poker, but it's a fun game with amazing odds for a 3 card royal flush.
I've only been to Tunica Mississippi once. It's near Tennessee. it's no Biloxi, but it was the hot spot until Biloxi got built up. Now Biloxi blows it away. I was at a few casinos, Ballys (a barn, seriously, that's the theme for it, why? I don't know), Harrahs (The worst Harrahs I've been to, and Harrahs New Orleans is one of my favorite casinos in the world, so why this one is so small, beats me). But one name holds up in the south. The Grand. And they've got the biggest Grand ever built in Tunica. It's well worth the visit. Hollywood Casino and Gold Strike are great to.
GOLD STRIKE: It was owned by Circus Circus once I think, not sure if it is anymore. This is a gem. This place is beautiful. You'll think you're in the ritziest Steve Wynn casino, it's only missing the million dollar paintings and the tributes to himself. They've got a nice casino and a nice poker room. My review is short because I was only here once. I've been to Biloxi about 100 times because it's superior. But the Gold Strike is a great place to play poker. Plus they've got Poker room specials for like $25!!!!! I usually stay in the dump motels for that price when I'm meeting lady friends, so to get a place like this for $25 is insane, it's well worth the quick plane ride. Give it a shot. THE GRAND CASINO TUNICA: An amazing property. The water in front, the lights. It's awesome. If you go to Tunica, make sure you hit this place up. Tell them I sent you and they'll sell you the 99 cent shrimp cocktail for 99 cents. Wait, that's no deal, they lied to me!!!!! Ok, this is THEEE place to play poker in Tunica, I'm talking the $25,000 Free Rolls , the $50 in free poker chip specials, the poker room rates. This state is infested with casinos. Give Mississippi a shot, start with the best, BILOXI. Let me hear your Mississippi stories. Especially the ones where you hooked up with those hotties.
