Poker Etiquette
Many people these days, myself included, play most of their
poker online and with good reason. It's just more profitable, plain and simple. The online game moves alot faster, so you get to see many more hands, especially if you are multi-tabling. Toss in the money you save on gas by not having to drive a bunch of miles both ways and being able to sit comfortably at home in you PJ's. It's no wonder so many people love playing
online poker.
But let's all remember that poker is a social game and there's no feeling like sitting at a casino, being able to look your opponents in the eyes and picking up on their bluffs. The air is electric in a casino. It's great fun.
With that said, there are some things you need to remember when you do venture to a live game. There are rules we need to follow, we're not in our home anymore. So I decided to write this for all you internet players out there heading to the casino for the first time. Hope to see you at the table one day!
1.Be Polite: Yeah, I know, I do it to. You get sucked out on the river and you start screaming and cursing at the monitor. At home that's cool, but remember we're in the real world now. Be polite to your fellow players and the dealer. No one likes playing with a jerk.
2.Play in turn: No matter what your action is going to be, wait your turn. You can give important info to the players after you, which the others won't appreciate.
3.Don't splash the pot: It was awesome when Teddy KGB did it in Rounders, but it is unacceptable in real life. Just place your bet in front of you and let the dealer pull it in.
4.Play at a decent pace: The guys on TV who take what seem like a lifetime are playing for millions, you're not. Don't rush and not play your best game, just make it reasonable.
5.Keep your cards on the table: We all want to protect the integrity of the game and I'm sure you wouldn't like it if you didn't know where your opponents card went.
6.No string bets: Again very cool in the movies when the hero puts in chips while saying "I'll call your raise", then pauses reaches for more chips and says "and re-raise you". Cool in the movies, not allowed in real life.
7.No cellphones: I think this one is pretty self explanatory.
8.One player to a hand: Do not compare cards with another player. It is unfair to everyone.
9.Tipping: When you win a pot, remember to tip the dealer. They work hard and depend on tips as part of their livelihood.
