Very high variances are dangerous because you risk losing your whole bankroll, however an extremely low variance might mean you're playing too tight.

Analysing your Play

Keeping records will allow you to make even further analyses of your play, especially if you are an experienced player, realize and record the habits and playing styles of your opponents. You can then define which type of table you are playing at, and how you reacted to the table. Keeping records is much easier to do for online players, and it is also that much more important. By keeping records of online poker you can determine which sites have which types of games and so forth. Also, players tend to play more short poker sessions online. It is easy to lose track of progress in these conditions, in fact, I believe that it's not worth sitting down to play for 10 minutes at a time. You need to have patience to play poker and in 10 minutes, you might have to fold every hand.
