Loose-Aggressive Poker Table
This type of table is very rare. Usually though, it only takes two loose-aggressive players to make a table crazy. I remember the first time I played 10-20 Hold'em in a casino. There were two players who were raising and reraising everything. The worse example I saw, there were about 4 people calling to see the flop. On the flop, these two 'maniacs' got into a raising war. The other two players folded, and the raising war continued all the way to the river. The winner of the pot was holding 22 and missed the board completely, and the loser had AK, and missed the board completely. I was rapidly losing at this game until I realized that I had to start playing more aggressively when these players were in the pot and I had a strong hand.
At the same time, I had to be careful about playing too aggressively when the other players at the table were involved. The maniacs will allow other players to extract more money out of their winning hands. Calling to the river with a fairly good hand just because you're playing against a maniac will prove costly if other players are in the pot as well. That being said, the maniac also helps you trap other players when you have a very strong hand. This is the best part of Loose-Aggressive games, you will make money off of people who make the mistake I just warned you about, as well as off the maniacs. It is important to note that if you hit a flop, you should not slow play unless you have a monster hand.(nut flush, full house, etc.) Get your action in immediately to let the other players know that you mean business. Even though the game may be somewhat loose, if a maniac is raising on the flop in front of you, you can make it three bets with a strong hand, eliminating some of the weaker hands that would have otherwise called and could have beat you later.
Important Notes on Loose-Aggressive Games
1. Play fewer hands in early position, it is likely that the pot will be raised, and you will not be confident playing weaker hands like Ace Ten offsuit.
2. When you hit a strong hand(top pair, top kicker or better) don't be afraid to reraise on the flop in order to scare other players who may chase you, and to get more money off the aggressive bettor(maniac).
3. Do not call maniacs bets with mediocre hands(top pair, low kicker, or second pair) if other players are in the pot. They are probably holding a strong hand and taking advantage of the maniacs betting pattern.
